Welcome to the Annual Newsletter of the Power to You(th) Senegal for 2023; A Year of Consolidation and Scaling Up
We are thrilled to present the Power to You(th) Program Annual Newsletter for 2023. This past year has been a significant period of growth and consolidation for our project. Despite numerous challenges, we have made remarkable strides in promoting and protecting the social well-being of young people across five regions in Senegal.
Through this comprehensive report, we aim to share the highlights, successes, and key outcomes achieved in 2023. Join us as we reflect on our journey and the impact of our efforts in empowering youth.
🌟 Highlights of 2023
- Slam & Graffiti Competitions: In collaboration with AFRICULTURBAN, we organized four competitions that used urban culture as a medium for advocacy.
- Citizens’ Hearings and Public Consultations: These dialogues enabled youth to engage with local governments, influencing policies related to health and public policy development.
- Small Grant Initiatives: Projects like JOKKO reinforced prevention measures against sexual and gender-based violence in the health district of Matam.
- Youth Awareness Live Sessions: Partnering with influencers, we conducted live sessions on social media addressing issues such as FGM, early pregnancies, and child marriage.
🎉 Success Stories
- Mamadou Demba Diouf: The youngest mayor of Dalla Ngabou, who has been actively involved in youth organizations, shared his inspiring journey during a citizen’s dialogue.
- Nafi from Matam: A courageous young girl who escaped an abusive early marriage with the help of local women’s rights organizations, turning her traumatic experience into a success story.

📈 Key Outcomes of 2023
- 100,000+ people reached through digital campaigns on FGM, violence, early pregnancies, and child marriages.
- 633 young people involved in the Small Grant initiative.
- 300 young leaders trained on decentralization policy reforms.
- 12 citizens’ dialogues and public consultations organized.
- 241 local authorities engaged in advocacy work.
